چکیده

Theoretical and experimental results are reported on the thermal lensing effect caused by the radial thermal gradient present in optically pumped Nd:YAG laser rods. The presented theory is in agreement with the experimental observations. The results reveal that a Nd: YAG rod under pumped light becomes a positive lens with two focal lengths. The temperature dependent variation of the refractive index constitutes the major contribution of the thermal lensing. The stress dependent variation of the refractive index modifies the focal length about 20%. The effect of end-face curvature caused by an elongation of the rod is less than 6%.

Thermal lens compensation of Nd:YAG rod laser using a solid element of negative temperature coefficient of refractive index

In high power solid-state-laser systems, one of the major problems is the thermal effect, which occurs in optically pumped laser materials. Heating of the laser medium causes thermal distortions, leading to degradation of beam quality. The main thermal effects in laser rods are thermally induced birefringence and thermal lensing effects. High efficiency, high power and good output beam quality ...

Thermal lens and heat generation of Nd:YAG lasers operating at 1.064 and 1.34 microm.

We report on a simple and accurate method for determination of thermo-optical and spectroscopic parameters (thermal diffusivity, temperature coefficient of the optical path length change, pump and fluorescence quantum efficiencies, thermal loading, thermal lens focal length, etc) of relevance in the thermal lensing of end-pumped neodymium lasers operating at 1.06- and 1.3- microm channels. The ...

Investigation of nonlinear absorption and aggregation in aqueous solutions of rhodamine B using thermal lens technique

Thermal lensing effect was studied in aqueous solutions of rhodamine B using 532 nm, 9 ns pulses from a Nd:YAG laser. A low intensity He-Ne laser beam was used for probing the thermal lens. Results obtained show that it is appropriate to use this technique for studying nonlinear absorption processes like two photon absorption or excited state absorption and for analyzing dimerization equilibria.

62-W cw TEM(00) Nd:YAG laser side-pumped by fiber-coupled diode lasers.

We describe the laser performance and thermal properties of side-pumped Nd:YAG rod lasers that use ibercoupled diode lasers as pump sources. Utilizing a nearly homogeneous pump light profile, we realize an output power of more than 60 W in TEM(00) mode operation with optical-to-optical efficiencies of more than 25%. In multimode operation, optical slope efficiencies of more than 46% are observed.

Optical limiting and thermal lensing studies in C 60

Optical limiting and thermo-optic properties of C60 in toluene are studied using 532 nm, 9 ns pulses from a frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser. Optical limiting studies in these fullerene molecules lead to the conclusion that reverse saturable absorption is the major mechanism for limiting properties in these molecules. Thermal lensing measurements are also performed in fullerene solutions. The qua...
